AP Literature

  1. Handout on writing assignments (emailed it too).  Aggravate  me about due dates and these will be due next week.  Otherwise, it will be Tues-Thurs of the following week.
  2. Turn in print out of creative writing.
  3. Don’t for get your 100 ideas journal — I might check check these around midterm — I know everyone has at least 20 completed already, so maybe that is the number I’ll check.
  4. Remember the psychopath article? I want you to go to citationmachine.net and create a MLA endnote citation for it.  Print out the page and turn it in by next Wed.
  5. Reading/Find Grimm Story/Book talk/Find Poem/Citation Day — No reading log today.
  6. Two poem essay DUE Next Friday.

  1. Bring your literature book!  Going back to get it is going to count as a tardy — I told you to bring it every day but Mon. and Fri.
  2. Turn in cover for Sinners in the Hands… if you have not.
  3. Add the 5 vocabulary words on page 97 to the vocabulary from Sinners in the Hands….
  4. Listen or read from The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin (98)
  5. Assignment: Analyzing Character — Using personal details and experiences than Franklin presents to write a personal profile of Franklin as a young man.  Use vivid language and quotes from the selection to make your profile more interesting and valid.  (This should be about a page and it goes on the same paper as the vocab.)

Short stories

  1. “The Saint” — I hope you read it….
  2. Worksheet — complete only crossword and then we will check it and discuss what we are going to do next.

Novels

  1. The Western Book Report….
  2. Book #2 — You should be finishing it up.
  3. Finish what you can in the packet — Personal response: If you had to be a character in your Western, which would you be and why?
  4. I cannot stress how important it is that you are reading outside of class!

AP Literature

  1. Finish up and grade notes :)
  2. Critical analysis essay using literary theory — I am giving you two stories from which to choose.  (You may choose a different Grimm fairy tale, but I need to print it out and staple it to your essay.)
  3. Second writing assignment — The politically correct fairy tale — illustrated!  Small group work — school appropriate language.
  4. I want that print out of your creative writing tomorrow :)

  1. Hold on to the vocab from Sinners…. We will add the next story’s work to that paper.
  2. Finish and turn in Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God cover.
  3. It should have the title, author’s name, color, and imagery from the sermon.
  4. If you did not turn in the work from La Relacion (vocab, chart, and 2 questions), do so today.

Short stories

  1. Last day to finish up “The Standard of Living” work.
  2. Start reading “The Saint” and filling out story map.
  3. You will be getting work for “The Saint” tomorrow, and it will require that you’ve read it.

Novels

  1. Working on packet or reading novel — I am counting today towards your participation points.
  2. I am missing book covers from Joshua William and Michael Rene.

AP Literature

  1. If you didn’t mark your calendar — the two poem comparison essay is DUE 2/3.  No one should score less than a 6 on this essay after our conferences.  Revise to address the essay prompt and check silly things like grammar and spelling!
  2. Literary Criticism Notes — about 25 slides of amazing notes!
  3. I have not forgotten about your creative writings — I would like a print out of your story by Friday :0  (I am not printing for you; use a netbook and print to HSLibrary.)
  4. We are going to be speeding up a little more on Tues.-Thurs. so be ready.

  1. Tue.-Thurs. you will need your literature book!
  2. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathan Edwards (88)
  3. Copy vocabulary as usual on page 89.  Copy the meaning for connotation also.
  4. Listening to the sermon to get an idea of the Puritan beliefs regarding sin.
  5. Questions only if people are goofing off, but you will have another art assignment.
  6. Pick a scene or mood from the sermon and turn into a movie poster — include the title, author, and use color.  Posters are portrait not landscape.  Individual regular printer paper/partners (2) a larger paper size.

Short Stories

  1. Do we need a work day? Yes.
  2. I want everyone caught up by the end of the period if possible.
  3. Start reading “The Saint” by V.S. Pritchett (33) — it is longer, and you will have a quiz on it….

Novels

  1. Packet time — Western packet start filling out the character information.
  2. Reading novel.

AP Literature

  1. Poetry Test #3 — Magic # is 9 :)
  2. Email poetry response by 4:00.
  3. Turn in Poetry Test #2 corrections ASAP — Did I give you the answers? If not, we’ll do that first.
  4. When would you like to email the two poem comparison essay?  I am not in a hurry to grade these but I want to get them collected.

  1. Novel Reading Day — Fill out reading log and turn it in to the tray on my desk.  Anyone receiving a poor remark from Mr. Webster will get 1) at least one day of ISS and 2) zero points.
  2. I was extremely disappointed with some people’s behavior when I was on leave.  Please, show that you can behave yourself.

Short stories

  1. Make sure you have all your work turned in so far.
  2. Finish the list of where you’d spend your $1 million, the read the really short, short story “The Standard of Living”.
  3. You will get a worksheet that you can also start on today.

  3. Begin working on your revisions for the two poem comparison essay.
  4. THIS JUST IN: The school will pay for ½ of the AP fee.  Therefore, you are responsible for $43.50 for each exam taken.  All students will pay this regardless of free/reduced status.  If you are on free/reduced and had to pay the entire reduced fee…it would be more.  The due date to pay will be February 28.  Checks need to be made out to EHS. I will be turning in the checks as I get them. I will be submitting a list of who has paid and is testing at the end of the day on the Feb. 28. If you want AP Lit to count towards the Academic Honors Diploma, you have to take the test!
