ENGLISH 11

  1. Journal #13 — Write down the steps you went through to arrive at school today. Begin as you wake up and stop when you arrive in the parking lot. This can be a numbered list.
  2. Creative Writing #1 (CW#1)
  3. Review creative writing list and brainstorm ideas.

THEMES

  1. Turn in character sheet if you have not.
  2. Name of media: The Dresden Files (Jim Butcher, author); sub-genre: urban fantasy
  3. Media sheets: for the full 15pts explain how you would use the idea — not just “I’d have a Sword of Truth”.

AP LITERATURE

  1. Reading day — you can read your novel or work on finishing Night (Let’s have it completely finished by next Wed.)
  2. Book talks for those who signed-up.
  3. Read 25 pages and hate your novel — see me after book talks are finished.
  4. Reminder Essay#1 (3 really impressive paragraphs using evidence/commentary format) — DUE Friday.
  5. Reminder to scour the web to see you can find your own college essay prompt….

ENGLISH

  1. You need your novel,  journal,  map & rough draft.
  2. Journal #12 — Pick five words from your “The Beach” word cluster and write the word, its part of speech, and make up a creative (i.e. fake) word origin/history.
  3. I will be checking journals 1-10, while you are reading your novel.
  4. Fill out your reading log and try to find five vocabulary words for the vocab sheet.
  5. Before you leave class, staple together your map and rough draft and put them in the box.

  1. Notes — some of the best notes on writing you will EVER receive!

AP LITERATURE

  1. Turn in Poetry Response #2 in the tray on my desk.

  1. Get a yellow grammar book from the shelf.
  2. Journal #11 — Look on syllabus sheet for topic.
  3. Grammar — Page 19 — 1-10 (592-3) and worksheet

THEMES

  1. Journal 3 — Are the characters in your novel realistic in the context of the story? Why or why not?
  2. Journal 4 — Describe the major conflict in what you are reading. Which side are you on?
  3. Fill out reading log for today.
  4. Look for vocabulary words to finish one side of vocab sheet.
  5. Turn in maps on computer cart – have character sheets ready to turn tomorrow.

AP LITERATURE

  1. Night quiz?

ENGLISH

  1. Journal #10 — How do you begin any kind of writing — school assignments, letters, or creative writing? How do you get to the point of writing the first words? And finally, do you think the memory map helped get ideas for your writing? (Journals 1-10 DUE MONDAY)
  2. Maps and rough draft are DUE MONDAY.
  3. If you are finished, read your novel and work on the vocab sheet.

THEMES

  1. Maps are DUE MONDAY.
  2. Today you are building a character using D&D 3.5 character sheets.
  3. Try to take your work (maps, characters, etc.) seriously — I will not give full credit to inappropriate or overtly silly work.

AP LITERATURE

  1. Returning Anthem answers and rubric.
  2. Essay #1 — Questions about it?
  3. Poetry response #2 — I hope to have #1 back to you on Monday with feedback.

ENGLISH 11

  1. Journal #8: Write your opinion on five different topics in five sentences. Start each sentence with “I think…” (You only write five sentences total.)
  2. Memory Maps should be finished (if not, you are behind).
  3. You are starting a rough draft of a creative narrative that is “based-on a true story” — sort of like “Big Boy” by David Sedaris.
  4. Turn in an Exit Slip at the end of the period.

THEMES

  1. Media dayLegend of the Seeker — based on the Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind (Our library only has the second book in the series, which I highly recommend if you like fantasy with a little gore/violence mixed in.)
  2. Fantasy maps need to finished ASAP — remember color, landmarks, effort.

AP LITERATURE

  1. Novel Reading Day — You can read your novel for supplemental reading or Night.

ENGLISH 11

  1. Journal catch up:
    • Journal 3: Write the name of your favorite time in History and then list 20 words to describe it.
    • Journal 4: Write your opinion on any topic, but make it a complete paragraph.
    • Journal 5: Write a paragraph that includes five personal strengths, which employers or colleges would like to see.
  2. Finish Memory Map and start a hand-written rough draft.

THEMES

  1. Work on your fantasy map:
    • Things on your map need to be labeled
    • A compass would be nice
    • It needs to have color
    • It needs to have landmarks (mountains, lakes, plains, etc.)
    • It should be larger than a piece of regular printer paper

AP LITERATURE

  1. Turn in your Entrance Interview and pick up the in-class essay (due by end of period Monday).
  2. Also, you need to get a literature book and record it on the book rental form.
  3. P.S. — Put your name in your book.
  4. (You have some reading in your lit. book for Monday. Check the syllabus.)
