Short Stories

  1. Take one of the short stories we have read so far and with a partner create a colorful, artistic, amazing book poster. Include the title, author, catch-phrase, and your names. Use 8.5×11 printer paper.

AP Literature

  1. Need to finish checking journals 1-30.
  2. Cornell notes on pages 320-327.
  3. 7 pages = A, 6 = B, and 5 = C (4 or less = F)

Short Stories

  1. Finish “Rear Window”
  2. Finish and turn in packet

AP Literature

  1. Turn in Notes
  2. Read Nature and Self-Reliance (180-184) for tomorrow.
  3. No presentation tomorrow; most likely a quiz….

Novels

  1. I want to conference with each student (if possible) about 9 week projects.
  2. Everyone else needs to read their novel.

ENGLISH 11

  1. Journals 1-30 work on them because I will be grading them toward the end of class.
  2. Vocabulary packet — this is DUE in the box.
  3. Advertising project — turn in your folder to the basket on my desk.  – I WILL NOT be helping anyone with this.

SHORT STORIES

  1. Rear Window — be watching for similarities and differences
  2. “It Had to Be Murder” packet will be due tomorrow. Yesterday, I posted information about themes, motif, etc.

AP LITERATURE

  1. Work to complete notes — if you are as loud as you were yesterday then the notes will be due today.
  2. Reminder: Don’t ask to go to your locker and stay seated until the bell rings.

NOVELS

  1. Horror brown bags will be next week — Thursday and Friday only. I am working on a proper rubric because the quality was not what I wanted for many of the western genre.
  2. 9 weeks presentations are the week after that! — I am planning a whole week for these because they are much more in-depth.
  3. Reminder: 9 week presentations are on two different books and movie, which you tie together by a theme. You are presenting to the class each book and the movie. You are also creating an object, which shows the theme. Examples: Journal from minor character’s pov, widdle, drawing/artwork — what ever it is you need to be able to connect it to your theme.
  4. 14 of 24 people currently passing…. You may not want to goof around and think you can still pass. (Just a thought.)

ENGLISH 11

  • Today is the last work/lab day for the advertising project.
  • I have given you a check list of what to turn in — I want those items stapled in the manila folder I gave each group.
  • Make sure each group member’s name is on all your papers.
  • Video/Audio files can be saved to your H:/ drive or shown directly to me.

SHORT STORIES

“It Had to Be Murder” packet info:

  • Characters: There are five main characters in the story — use them.
  • Themes: 1) The devil is in the details 2) Bonus — if you can come up with one and support it.
  • Motif: entrances and exits
  • Symbols: 1) Windows 2) Wheelchair
  • Personal Response: Jefferies uses his window to track his neighbors. How hard would it be to track (spy on) someone using today’s technology? Give a detailed response.

AP LITERATURE

  • We are going to take a break from the essays and go back to literature. If you want to work on the next AP Test Essay, go for it; it will be assigned.
  1. American Romanticism: 7 pages of Cornell Notes (2 column notes) on pages 163 to 175. Focus mostly on the elements that are relevant to literature. Slackers: fill your pages with questions instead of using large, sloppy writing :(

NOVELS

  1. Reading day — quiz at the end of class….

  1. Finish and turn in the vocabulary packet — These words will be on the semester exam!
  2. Try to wrap up any of the advertising project you can.  Tomorrow is the LAST day in the computer lab AND everything is DUE TOMORROW.

Short Stories

  1. “It Had to Be Murder” packets — Turn them in today.  According to the substitute, everyone was finished with them on Friday.
  2. Video “Rear Window” watch for similarities and differences with the short story.

AP Literature

  1. Finish and turn in AP Essay #1.
  2. Group/class Evaluation.

Short Stories

  1. Reading day — Fill out your log and remember that for some reading days are hurting your grades!

  1. LAB DAY — You have a lot to get printed and in your manila folder:
  • 7 McCann-Erickson questions answered and put into paragraphs (20 pts.)
  • Company and Logo (Letterhead) (15 pts)
  • Consumer Survey (10 pts)
  • Consumer Survey Results in Chart (Use Calc) (15 pts)
  • Magazine (Print) Ad (20 pts)
  • Television (Video/Story Board) Ad (20 pts)
  • Radio (Audio) Ad (20 pts)
  • List of where your ads will placed. (5 pts)

  1. ALL the items in the project are DUE FRIDAY.
  2. I will give each group a manila folder to staple your projects in, but I want the front to have your company name, logo, and group members’ names on it.

  1. Look at your checklist! You should have some of those items completed.
  2. Create a company name and logo.
  3. Create Survey: 8-10 multiple choice questions.
  4. Pick a print ad style and begin looking for images for your print ad.
  5. Write script for audio ad (must be 30 seconds long).
  6. Begin creating your print ad.

Short Stories

  1. Did you turn in the “CCBB” packet? It is DUE today!
  2. Next story, “It had to be Murder” by Cornell Woolrich.

AP Literature

  1. Grading and turning in AP Practice Test.

Novels

  1. Reading horror/scary novels.
  2. You will be getting or losing points based on if you read or not.
